For as long as film animation has been around, Canadian artists have been at the forefront of the medium, pushing it to new levels artistically and technically. None of the films in this latest batch of Canadian animations are particularly about Canada or stereotypically Canadian things (except maybe niceness, which is one Canadian stereotype we’ll concede to). What there is, is introspectiveness, trickery, loveable annoyingness, sacrifice, silliness, and also some experimentation in film that’s in keeping with Canada’s tradition for innovation.
